Pathology Smear Review

Methodology

Slides are prepared from EDTA whole blood specimens using a push prep technique to create a thin monolayer of cells which are then air-dried and stained with Modified Wright’s-Giemsa stain. The smears are examined under a microscope, using magnifications designed to adequately identify and/or count cells. All slide reviews are correlated with histogram results from the CBC analyzer, and include evaluation of WBC, RBC, and Platelet populations.

Result Reporting and Reference Values

Results are reported as free text observations/ recommendations by performing Pathologist.

Useful For

Pathology Smear Reviews are performed on CBC specimens on the order of Healthcare providers, even in absence of abnormal CBC findings or laboratory reflex protocols.
