Do not draw specimens through heparinized catheters that contain benzalkonium chloride.
Do not use specimens obtained through catheters used to infuse hyperalimentation fluid.
Protect specimens from light.
Every effort should be made to fill vacuum tubes completely when collecting blood.

Standard phlebotomy practices.
- Do not draw specimens through heparinized catheters that contain benzalkonium chloride.
- Do not use specimens obtained through catheters used to infuse hyperalimentation fluid.
- Protect specimens from light.
- Every effort should be made to fill vacuum tubes completely when collecting blood.
Do not refrigerate specimens before centrifugation.
Centrifuge specimens and remove serum or plasma from cells within 2 hours of collection.
Do not lay PST or SST tube down after centrifuging.
Specimens should remain tightly capped.
