Collection Instructions

  • Standard phlebotomy practices.
    • Do not draw specimens through heparinized catheters that contain benzalkonium chloride
    • Do not use specimens obtained through catheters used to infuse hyperalimentation fluid.
    • Every effort should be made to fill vacuum tubes completely when collecting blood.
  • Do not refrigerate specimens before centrifugation.
  • Centrifuge specimens and remove serum or plasma from cells within 2 hours of collection.
  • Specimens should remain tightly capped.
