Useful For
CRP is synthesized by the liver and is one of the acute phase proteins. In the acute phase response, increased concentrations of several plasma proteins, including CRP, are observed. CRP concentration measurements are useful in the detection and evaluation of inflammatory disorders, tissue injury, and infections.

Limitations
- Ortho reports a bias with the following:
- Ampicillin at 200 mg/dL has a negative bias
- Gentisic Acid at 5 mg/dL has a negative bias
- Ortho reports no significant effect with the following:
- Hemoglobin up to 268 mg/dL
- Bilirubin up to 25 mg/dL
- Lipemia up to 800 mg/dL
- The following interpretive data is visible to the practitioner:
- Total protein below 4.9 g/dL creates a positive bias of about 15%, total protein above 9.5 g/dL creates a negative bias of about 15%.
